The Business Numbers Dataset

Every number this site displays comes from a versioned rule pack — a small JSON file holding the figures, the official URL they were transcribed from, the date they were verified, and the date that verification lapses. Those files are public. You can read them, cite them, diff them, or query them from an assistant without asking us for anything.

The state tables, as CSV

The same data as the JSON packs, flattened one row per verified jurisdiction, for anyone whose tool is a spreadsheet rather than a fetch call. Every row carries its own source URL and verification date — a table torn out of its context is exactly how a figure loses its provenance, and a CSV is the most tearable format there is.

State unemployment (SUTA) new-employer rates & wage bases

15 verified rows · 6 columns

New-employer SUTA rate and taxable wage base per verified state, from each state workforce agency. States that publish an industry-varied rate carry the range in the note column rather than a fabricated single figure.

LLC filing & annual fees by state

19 verified rows · 7 columns

Filing fee and ongoing obligations per verified state, from each Secretary of State fee schedule. Formula-based franchise taxes are labeled as formulas with their minimums — never flattened into a fake single number.

Generated in your browser from the packs already on this page — nothing is requested from a server, and a state absent from a file has not been verified rather than having no rule.

How to read it

  • https://bizphoton.com/rulepacks/index.json — every pack, with its topic, jurisdiction, status and verification date.
  • https://bizphoton.com/rulepacks/<packId>.json — one pack: the figures plus sourceUrl, sourceLabel, officialCalculatorUrl, effectiveDate, verifiedDate and status.
  • https://api.cosyslabs.com/bizphoton/mcp — the same data over MCP, so an assistant can compute and cite in one step. See /developers.

Rules we hold ourselves to

  • Status is honest. A pack is only verified if someone opened the official source on verifiedDate and transcribed what was literally there. Everything else stays pending and carries no figures at all.
  • Pending earns nothing. An unverified pack produces no page, no sitemap entry, and no MCP answer — the tools refuse rather than guess.
  • Sources are primary. The IRS, the SSA, the Department of Labor, the BLS, state workforce agencies, Secretaries of State, and legislatures. Never a payroll vendor, never a formation service, never an aggregator, never us.
